A cutting edge technothriller from the bestselling author of Angel Killer and Public Enemy Zero.
Astronaut David Dixon's first mission to space goes horribly wrong when shots are fired on a Russian space station. He finds himself making an emergency landing from orbit and becomes the most wanted man on Earth.
Desperate to unravel the plot he’s found himself in, he takes his pursuers on a wild chase from space to the backstreets of Rio and beyond. Dixon’s survival relies on his skills as a pilot and willingness to do whatever it takes – crashing a passenger jet into the Mexican desert to pulling off an incredible heist in Low Earth Orbit.
If space doesn't kill David Dixon, Earth will.

I think Andrew Mayne is actually 4-6 persons all doing things independently. Mayne's previous novels range from Steam Punk to Dark Fantasy, Mystery and Thrillers. In Station Breaker, Mayne's displays his skills in science fiction as well. The story is at once breezy and fun while also dipping into the mind of a man who works at the edges of a galaxy alone for very long stretches of time. With that much time on your hands, it should be no surprise that talking to rocks or imagining things that may, or may not, be there is understandable. But Mayne offers some respite for his lonely lighthouse worker with some fine action, interesting (and quite funny) alien visitors and a past love interest that prevents the story from being all about the loneliness in space. Also enjoyable are the space politics in play here and an impending war that he just might be able to prevent. Maybe.
It's really a fun read, folks. Recommended.

Station Breaker edition by Andrew Mayne Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Imagine McGyver goes to outer space. Then, when he's back on earth, he has to rely heavily on his wits and ability to think outside the box as he evades people who are after him while trying to figure out what the heck is really going on and who he can trust. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The main character is someone I think I would want to be pals with if he really existed. I must say I am now a fan of Andrew Mayne and look forward to the next book in this particular series. In fact, I HAVE to read the next book to find out what happens to everyone. Smart move Andrew, making the story last through two books. I just may start reading ALL the books he's written and hope they are as well done as this one.
Entertaining, though ridiculously fast-paced to the point that I imagined writing code to crank out copies of the following scene "I tried to fit in with the locals, but soon some dudes started shooting at me and I had to steal another vehicle and escape." This happens a lot, and for me at least, it's not a good pattern when there's so little down time in the plot. For me the highlight is the parts dealing with spaceflight and how an astronaut might handle combat in space with very near-future technology.
Station Breaker is a really enjoyable space-based action story. Be advised, the entire book is almost 100% first-person narrative. The hero shares almost every thought with the readers. That was OK with me, but your mileage may differ. Also, the action/danger/combat scenes are more over the top than those of most James Bond or Jason Bourne stories.
If you love very fast-paced wall-to-wall action with some tech stuff, and a sort-of ordinary guy placed into a heroic position, this book should be right in your wheelhouse. Of course, you shouldn't expect much realism or clear explanations for most of the behaviors and plot twists and jumps. And the hero is apparently harder to kill than Superman or Dracula. This book is about the action and the hero. If you like both of these, you'll love this book.
I can't wait to read "Orbital" and other works by Andrew Mayne.
This book begins with an exciting opening, picks up the pace quickly, and never let's up. Astronaut David Dixon is a last-minute replacement on a shuttle crew headed into space. Problems develop very quickly and they're forced to dock with a Russian space station to make repairs, and that's when everything goes horribly wrong. Dixon is forced to abandon his crew mates and make an emergency landing in the Brazilian jungle, where he finds himself pursued by the police, Russian assassins, and agents of the US government. trying to retrieve something they believe he stole from the space station. Along the way he steals number of vehicles, including a motorcycle, an ambulance, a helicopter and a commercial airliner. He's guided by the mysterious 'Capricorn', who may or may not have his best interests at heart. Dixon leaves a trail of mayhem and destruction in his wake as he tries to figure out who's after him and why. Fans of 'The Martian' should love this book, as it's the story of an ordinary geek who uses his vast knowledge of a variety of subjects to find extraordinary solutions to seemingly insurmountable problems.
Somehow I ended up on Andrew Mayne's email list. I have no memory of signing up for it, but I'm very glad I did. A few weeks ago Mr. Mayne sent out a call to his fans to help him proofread his latest book. Having never read one of his books, I decided to take part in this. I am so glad I did, because Station Breaker is an awesome book. I found the technology portion really interesting and the book was fast-paced and well written. You could easily finish it in 1-2 sittings. This was the first book I read by Andrew Mayne, but if his others are anything like Station Breaker, I will be reading more.
